I see kittyfairies

I discovered some interesting new grafiti walking to the grocery store the other day.

Coincidence?

D+H take New York

D+H capped their glorious conquest of Manhattan with a night of restraint and prudence, ably assisted by the virtuous S, K, and a supporting cast of New Yorkers. Highlights: suspiciously cheap salmon, improv-comedy au natural, Austrian economists, and our good friend the gin bottle.

Happy!

I'll see you in Hell, Dell Inspiron

How to ruin your life for a week: Combine laptop and poorly sealed water bottle in messenger bag. Shake vigorously as you run to the train. Notice curious dampness seeping into pants. Notice sparking noises coming from laptop. Curse. Fan laptop with equally sodden papers. Curse. Beg. Cry.

So the other day I water-boarded my laptop to death. I've been waiting for it to go for a while now, but was hoping for a planned transition. Please, loyal reader, pray for hard drive recovery.

Tequila

Last Friday is perhaps best expressed in the following video.

Oh tequila. If I love you so much why do you hurt me so bad?

A San Francisco Haiku

Sunny, verdant, warm.
Organic coffee, tacos.
Weekend paradise.

Yum

This promotional snack was handed to me on the way out of the gym the other day.

Not "crickets," but "crick-ETTES". So you know it's gourmet.

They taste like crunchy synthetic "salt n' vinegar" with a weird aftertaste.

Messing with Texas

Spent a few hours this afternoon calling people in Texas on behalf of Mr. Obama. Apparently in their crazy state you get to vote twice: once in the primary (where 2/3 of the delegates are awarded) and then again that same night in the caucuses (where the other 1/3 are divided up). One man, two votes. Now that there's some TEXAS-SIZED democracy, yesiree! But nobody in Texas seems to aware of this system, so me and the rest of Moveon.org made 500,000 calls today to let them know.

A funny exchange:
[I call someone named "Clemmie" but get the voicemail so leave a message. A few minutes later I receive a call on my phone from that number]

Texan man: Did you just leave a message on my machine?
Me: Yes, I'm...
Texan: WHY THE HELL ARE YOU CALLING MY WIFE?!!???
Me: Um...I'm a volunteer for Moveon.org and we're trying to...
Texan: HOW DO YOU KNOW MY WIFE???
Me: Um...I don't really, she signed up with Moveon.org and we're just calling to remind her to vote in both the primary and the caucuses on Tuesday...
Texan: So you don't know my wife?
Me: No.
Texan: Oh. Well, god damn, that woman... [trails off]
Me: So....Are you considering voting for Barak Obama, sir?
Texan: Yeah, I'm gonna vote for him.
Me: Great, let me just remind you [goes over voting info]

Votes gained for Barack: 2
Incidents of domestic violence caused: 1

Dancing with the arts and sciences

Trend: museum dance parties

On Friday DJ Jazzy Jeff brought an odd mix of people to the Museum of Natural History.

The party was good. But the after-party in the dinosaur room was even better. Beware The Grasping Hand!

Then on Saturday it was artsy-fartsy time at MoMA, which had a dangerously open bar.

As you can see, I was highly enriched.

Political Theory after 9/11

I was asked to write some stuff about stuff someone else wrote about political theory after 9/11.

This is an interesting journal. Lefty, in a liberal way. Unapologetically intellectual. Sort of like Dissent without the post-Marxist baggage. And it's only online so you know it's legit.
